A local Tecopa "Kitty", November 8, 2001

Tecopa is located on the floor of the Amargosa Valley on an ancient lakebed. Nearby Grimshaw Lake and the Amargosa River have some year round water and riparian habitats. Warm dry days are free of smog and the nights are beautiful and clear. All this and the opportunity to use the natural hot mineral baths for which this area is noted, have made Tecopa a mecca for repose and recreation for centuries. The Valley is a mix of rolling hills and desert flats. From many points there are 360-degree mountain views.

The area is also a haven for naturalists, and scientists of all kinds, especially geologists, archaeologists and paleontologists for its rich finds and opportunity to study the earth in this dramatic environment. The local museum, in nearby Shoshone offers opportunities for learning about such discoveries, local history and more. Amateur rock hounds are known to find semi-precious stones, such as opal, amethyst, turquoise and petrified wood. Artists of all disciplines find amazing vistas, light, color and contrasts to inspire.
